The Metro Toronto Housing Authority developed the Safer Neighbourhoods Initiative to develop better strategies to deal with concerns over crime in public housing. Ten communities were invited to participate in the development of local strategies to combat crime and increase security. Residents, housing administrators, police and community groups and services were involved. An evaluation of this project undertaken through the Canadian Mortgage and Housing Corporation sponsorhip, demonstrated that the community-based approach was a crucial factor in the success of the initiative. 1, record 1, English, - Safer%20Neighbourhoods%20Initiative

La Commission de logement de la communauté urbaine de Toronto a lancé la Safer Neighbourhoods Initiative en vue de définir des stratégies plus efficaces de lutte contre le phénomène de la criminalité dans les logements sociaux. Dix communautés urbaines ont été invitées à participer à l'élaboration de stratégies locales visant à combattre le crime et à accroître la sécurité. Résidents, administrateurs de logements, services de police et organismes communautaires ont joint leurs efforts en ce sens.
