Sarrusophone. Cet instrument à anche double de la famille des cuivres, inventé en 1856 par Pierre-Auguste Sarrus, devait, dans l'esprit de son créateur, représenter une alternative crédible aux hautbois et basson dans les ensembles militaires. Pourtant sa sonorité évoque davantage celle d'un saxophone, en plus effacée. Son étendue, de même que le système de clés, se rapproche également de ce dernier.
