A radar signal that is unprocessed.

CONT

Obtaining the maximum information and value from Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) imagery requires that the raw radar signal be processed to the highest possible standard of image quality. This requires flexibility in processing in order to optimize image characteristics for the features of interest.

Simplement, le radar à synthèse d'ouverture (SAR) se base sur le principe que la contribution de tout objet réfléchissant est présente sur plusieurs échos radar enregistrés à des moments différents. Ainsi, au terme de l'acquisition des données par un capteur SAR, il n'existe pas d'image proprement dite, étant entendu que l'image est constituée de pixels représentant les objets. Plutôt, le signal radar brut contient l'objet, mais il faut le reconstituer à partir du signal. Cette reconstruction de l'objet à partir d'échos correspond au processus de synthèse de l'image. Au terme de ce processus, nous avons une image telle qu'on la connaît dans la vie de tous les jours : une juxtaposition bidimensionnelle de pixels.
