Dans les travaux souterrains, la quantité de hors-profils dépend du procédé de creusement et de la nature du terrain. S'ils se produisent sans qu'il y ait faute de l'entrepreneur, ils lui sont payés au prix des déblais normaux frappés d'un abattement qui est généralement fixé à 70 % en terrain rocheux.

déblais en excédent : Les termes «overbreak» et «hors-profil» expriment des points de vue différents, le premier évoquant la matière enlevée, alors que le second envisage plutôt l'espace évidé en trop. C'est pourquoi il nous paraît utile de proposer les équivalents «déblais en excédent» et «déblais hors-profil», qui serrent de plus près le terme anglais.
