Une autre possibilité est offerte par le thermoconducteur. Il est constitué de deux fines feuilles d'aluminium ou de cuivre, d'une dizaine de microns d'épaisseur, fixées sur un support de papier ou de Mylar, et isolées l'une de l'autre par un film plastique à faible masse moléculaire. Des contacts électriques sont disposés de part et d'autre de cet isolant; lorsque le thermoconducteur est suffisamment chauffé, l'isolant fond ou se ramollit, et un court-circuit se forme entre les deux contacts électriques.
