The ILO (International Labour Organization) was founded in 1919, in the wake of a destructive war, to pursue a vision based on the premise that universal, lasting peace can be established only if it is based upon decent treatment of working people. The ILO became the first specialized agency of the UN in 1946. The Organization is devoted to advancing opportunities for women and men to obtain decent and productive work in conditions of freedom, equity, security, and human dignity. Its main aims are to promote rights at work, encourage decent employment opportunities, enhance social protection and strengthen dialogue in handling work-related issues. 6, record 1, English, - International%20Labour%20Organization

"ILO is indeed called the International Labour (with "u") Organization (with "z") in English. ILO could also refer to the Secretariat which is the International Labour Office. The use of the current spelling, i.e., Organization, began in October 1992 at which time an internal circular was issued. It should be noted that "Organisation" remains the preferred spelling found in the titles of any instruments, e.g. conventions, recommendations, etc., adopted by the International Labour Conference before that date, including the Constitution which was established in 1919 and last amended in 1974. (The 1994 edition of the Constitution was incorrectly issued as "Constitution of the International Labour Organization". The error was corrected in the February 1998 edition)." 7, record 1, English, - International%20Labour%20Organization

Why do you have to conduct a workplace violence hazard assessment? The simple answer: The law says you do. As noted in the previous chapter, jurisdictions in Canada have specific workplace violence requirements in their OHS [Occupational Health and Safety] statutes or regulations. The requirement to do a hazard assessment is an element in just about all of these statutes and regulations. 2, record 2, English, - hazard%20assessment

An international initiative that would bring companies together with UN agencies, labour and civil society to support universal environmental and social principles. The Global Compact's operational phase was launched at UN Headquarters in New York on 26 July 2000. Today, many hundreds of companies from all regions of the world, international labour and civil society organizations are engaged in the Global Compact, working to advance ten universal principles in the areas of human rights, labour, the environment and anti-corruption. The Global Compact is a direct initiative of the Secretary-General. The Global Compact involves all the relevant social actors: governments, who defined the principles on which the initiative is based; companies, whose actions it seeks to influence; labour, in whose hands the concrete process of global production takes place; civil society organizations, representing the wider community of stakeholders; and the United Nations, the world's only truly global political forum, as an authoritative convener and facilitator. 1, record 5, English, - United%20Nations%20Global%20Compact

2, record 5, Spanish, - Pacto%20Mundial
