The dream of a Parapan American Games came to fruition in November 1999 in Mexico City when the inaugural edition was held with 1,000 athletes from 18 countries competing in four sports. The Parapan American Games became a regional qualifying event for the Paralympic Games — athletes competing in 1999 knew that a place at the Sydney 2000 Paralympic Summer Games was at stake.

The fifth province to enter the Canadian Confederation in 1870, and fifth in the order of precedence established according to the year of entry into Confederation. The territory covered by the province changed, from the original land around the Red River, to add, in 1881, a new area that was part of the area given to Ontario in 1874 only to give it back to Ontario in 1889, and to finally get to its actual boundaries in 1912.

The name of a province and its form, spelling and abbreviation are to be decided by the provincial toponymy authority, with the agreement of the Government of Canada. One uses "province of Manitoba" for the geographical entity, "Province of Manitoba" for the provincial administration, "Manitoba" as the short form, and "Man." as the abbreviation.

Approved by ISO, the Canada Post two-character symbol is MB (or CA-MB). This symbol is the same in all languages and must be used only in postal addresses and statistical charts where the identification of provinces and territories is restricted to two characters. A two-character provincial symbol must not be used instead of the abbreviation in a text or on a geographical map, a poster or a road sign.
