On sait qu'à la suite de cette évaluation, la clinique John Hopkins, qui avait inauguré aux USA les opérations pour changement de sexe, a cessé les interventions chirurgicales. Un de leurs patients en liste d'attente pour RSS ["réassignement sexuel chirurgical"], en réaction à la fermeture du programme de RSS, détruisit ses testicules à coups de révolver. L'autocastration peut, en effet, venir traduire l'impatience de ces sujets.
