Dans la matière, un noyau est soumis à des champs électrique et magnétique créés par son environnement, qui vont perturber les niveaux d’énergie nucléaire (translation et/ou levée de dégénérescence des niveaux). Ces perturbations, appelées interactions hyperfines, sont de l’ordre de 10-7 à 10-8 eV et peuvent donc être résolues par SM [spectrométrie Mössbauer] (G de l’ordre 10-8 eV [électronvolts]).
