Un exemple de matériau pour le cœur des structures sandwiches : les «nids d'abeilles» : Ces matériaux de remplissage, très répandus, sont constitués de cellules hexagonales régulièrement espacées faisant penser à un rayon de ruche (certains types vont jusqu'à être - c'est un hasard - de la même couleur). D'où le nom de nids d'abeilles.
