In order to give meaning to the term active exporter, DFAIT [Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade] asked Statistics Canada to further develop the profile of the Canadian export community for the period 1990 to 1994. The data revealed that the 5000th largest Canadian exporter in 1994 exported $2.3 million, and this figure will now be used to represent the threshold figure for defining an active exporter.
