Neutron interrogation is used in both the active neutron measurement cell for the identification of fissile materials and in the hazardous material cell for the capture gamma identification of the hazardous elements in waste.

Moyennant un spectre neutronique interrogateur approprié (rapide et thermique) et en utilisant des hypothèses sur certains radioéléments, il devient alors possible de quantifier séparément les éléments fissiles (235U, [exposants 239, 241]Pu) et fertiles (essentiellement238U). C’est typiquement le cas des cellules de mesures neutroniques actives dédiées aux besoins du contrôle et de la caractérisation de colis de déchets de coques et embouts, et de bitume.
