Arkenol Acid Hydrolysis Process. Strong acids are used in the pretreatment and hydrolysis of the feed stock, separating cellulose, hemicellulose, and lignin components. The acid/sugar solution is separated by a proprietary resin technology, and the acids are recirculated and reconcentrated. Any acids remaining are neutralized to form gypsum. The processes major advantages included reduced acid use, reduced gypsum production, reduced inhibitive product production, and higher ethanol yields.
