The Armed Services Blood Program Office (ASBPO) manages the blood program for the Department of Defense (DoD). The Armed Services Blood Program was established by the Presidential Order in 1952 as a joint field operating agency. The office is subject to the authority, direction and control of the Secretary of Defense (SECDEF) through the Assistant Secretary of Defense [Health Affairs (HA)] and under the operational control of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
