DEF

Part of the firing mechanism of some semi-automatic and automatic firearms which engages and holds the hammer on recocking and which returns it under control of the primary sear only after the trigger has been fully released by the shooter. It ensures the firing of only one shot for each trigger pressure when the weapon is set on semi-automatic, e.g. US M1, M14 and M16 rifles, Soviet AK47, AKM, AK74 rifles. Not to be confused with a disconnector. See also "disconnector".

DEF
