Under the Government of Canada's Action Plan 2000 on Climate Change, the Oil Division has overall responsability for a Carbon Dioxide Capture and Storage Initiative, which is aimed at helping to demonstrate and commercialize existing, near economic, technologies to capture, transport and store CO₂ underground. Dans le cadre du Plan d'action 2000 du gouvernement du Canada, c'est la Division du pétrole qui est responsable globalement de la mise en œuvre d'une Initiative de captage et de stockage du dioxyde de carbone visant à favoriser la démonstration et la commercialisation de technologies existantes, sur le point de devenir rentables, qui permettent de capter et de transporter le CO₂ et de le stocker sous terre.
