La norme ISO-2148 de 1974 (p. 3) propose "convoyeur-élévateur à bande souple pouvant former gaine étanche", tandis que le Répertoire 1971 du SIMMA (Syndicat des industries de matériels de manutention), p. 33, se contente de "convoyeur à bande souple pouvant former gaine étanche". D'ailleurs la définition de la source anglaise LASTE ne précise pas qu'il y ait montée. D'autre part, comme il s'agit d'un appareil à bande et non d'un appareil à chariots, le terme "transporteur" serait plus approprié que celui de "convoyeur".
