Climbing by precise placement of the edges of the climbing shoe soles on tiny ledges of rock.

The practice of placing the very edge of the boot on any hold which is clear-cut ... is called edging. The word "edge" applies not only to the boot's running edge, but also to the "edge" which forms the top of the hold ... The edge of the boot is placed directly on the hold and the sole finds purchase by conforming onto the rock ... the edge of the boot must be applied to the foothold at the angle of the hold, which requires ankle flexibility and that angle must be maintained while your weight is on it.

Trois paramètres conditionnent l'efficacité de la tenue du calage : la précision du point d'application de la force sur le relief rencontré, la fixité de la cheville, la justesse des alignements appuis-bassin, puis de l'alignement bassin-tronc permet la continuité de la transmission des forces.

Les bordures servent à séparer des espaces ayant des fonctions différentes (un stationnement d'un sentier pédestre) ou à limiter des matériaux, des textures, définir des transitions, les lignes particulières d'un design ou encore diriger les eaux de drainage.
