This project is based among the Masai people in Kajiado District, Kenya. Working with men and women of all ages, the project provides opportunities for people to use their environmental understanding to generate income through activities like ecotourism, efficient charcoal making, ostrich rearing, and arts and crafts. As well, there are activities designed to improve housing and offer education programs for local youth. This is one of several International Development Research Centre projects jointly funded with the Ford Foundation.

Le Programme d'aménagement de l'écosystème Elangata Wuas est mis en place parmi les populations de Masais du district Kényan de Kajiado. Associant hommes et femmes de tout âge, le projet est l'occasion de comprendre les maintes façons de tirer parti d'un milieu de vie particulier pour stimuler l'économie. Les activités proposées sont nombreuses : écotourisme, nouvelles techniques de fabrication du charbon de bois, élevage des autruches et artisanat; d'autres volets prévoient l'amélioration du logement et des programmes d'éducation offerts aux jeunes. Il s'agit d'un des projets que le Centre de recherches pour le développement international (CRDI) finance de concert avec la Fondation Ford.
