CONT

The most popular theoretical model for the newer design methods is the elastic layered system. Layers are of finite thickness and infinite extent laterally except that the lowest layer (subgrade) is also of infinite extent downward. Response of each layer is characterized by its modulus of elasticity and Poisson's ratio.

CONT
