Le virage d'une palangre prend en général une journée complète [...] La ligne est [...] passée sur des galets de guidage et dans le vire-ligne hydraulique. [...] En moyenne, le navire fait route le long de la palangre à une vitesse d'environ 6 nœuds et la ligne est virée par dessus le côté tribord à une vitesse d'environ 150 à 250 m par minute. La ligne principale se love sous l'effet de sa propre tension sur un tapis roulant qui la transporte à travers le pont, du côté tribord au côté bâbord. Les éventuels enchevêtrements de la ligne sont démêlés lors de son passage sur le tapis roulant.
