Lace named after John Leaver, the inventor of the machine on which it is made [and] the most expensive type of lace used on high fashion garments.

CONT

Machines were developed in the early 1800's to produce lace. John Leavers developed a machine in 1813 that produced patterns and backgrounds at the same time. The Leavers machine introduced the production of intricate lace patterns similar to those created by hand. Lace made on the Leaver's machine is called Leavers Lace. These laces are usually expensive.

La dentelle Leavers [...] c'est une dentelle tissée sur des métiers centenaires, par opposition à la dentelle tricotée sur des métiers électroniques : Rachel, Jaquardtronic et Textronic. Aucune dentelle tricotée ne peut égaler la qualité de la Leavers, une dentelle d'une grande finesse [...] Haut de gamme, la Leavers est une dentelle très chère : plus du double d'une autre dentelle.

OBS

En 1830, le système Leavers (du nom de son inventeur anglais) est adapté au métier Jacquard ; la production entame une étape industrielle très importante, notamment à Calais [...] Les métiers mécaniques produisent une dentelle de qualité proche de celle faite au fuseau ; un label "Dentelle de Calais" en fait foi.
