On voit souvent dans le ciel deux ou plusieurs étoiles très proches l'une de l'autre. En réalité, pour certains couples, la distance entre les deux étoiles est très grande, et elles n'ont aucun lien physique. Elles ne font que se projeter sur le ciel dans un voisinage serré et c'est pourquoi on leur donne le nom de "couples optiques".
