A measure of the tendency for organic hydrophobic chemicals to sorb primarily to the organic carbon present in soils or sediment.

OBS

A high value indicates a strong tendency for adsorption to soil or sediment, rather than remain dissolved in soil solution (or pore water). Strongly adsorbed molecules will not leach or move unless the soil particle to which they are adsorbed moves (as in erosion). Koc of less than 500 indicates little or no adsorption and a potential for leaching.

Rapport entre la quantité adsorbée d'un composé par unité de poids de carbone organique du sol ou du sédiment et la concentration en ce même composé en solution aqueuse à l'équilibre.

Le facteur de retard est proportionnel au coefficient de distribution Kd, qui décrit la séparation d'un soluté dissous entre les phases aqueuse et sorbée. Le degré d'adsorption est directement lié au contenu en carbone organique du sol. On sait qu'il existe une relation empirique entre Kd, la fraction massique en carbone organique dans le sol (foc) et le coefficient de distribution carbone organique / eau (Koc) : Kd =foc.Koc.
