péristaltisme. Mouvement constitué par une succession de contractions se propageant d'amont en aval, qui permet à certains organes creux (intestin, côlon, uretère, par exemple) d'assurer la propulsion de leur contenu.

CONT

Le mouvement péristaltique est un mouvement réflexe de constriction qui se produit dans un organe tubulaire (comme les intestins), afin de provoquer le déplacement des objets qui s'y trouvent (dans le cas du système digestif : les aliments).
