Oral allergy syndrome, also known as pollen-food allergy syndrome, is caused by cross-reacting allergens found in both pollen and raw fruits, vegetables, or some tree nuts. The immune system recognizes the pollen and similar proteins in the food and directs an allergic response to it. Fetal alcohol spectrum disorder (FASD) describes a spectrum or range of clinical conditions associated with prenatal alcohol exposure. L'expression FAS fut d'abord traduite en français par «syndrome d'alcoolisme fœtal». Le pédiatre français Dehaene, qui s'est lui aussi impliqué au niveau de la recherche sur les effets de l'alcool sur le fœtus, suggère l'appellation «syndrome d'alcoolisation fœtale», plus juste en effet : le fœtus n'est pas alcoolique mais soumis contre son gré à un processus d'alcoolisation.
