In September 2001, a working group, composed of experts from the sport community appointed by the Secretary of State (Amateur Sport), recommended that a national alternate dispute resolution (ADR) system for sport be developed in Canada. In response to this recommendation the bill [C-54, an Act to Promote Physical Activity and Sport] provides for the creation of the Sport Dispute Resolution Centre of Canada. A flexible organization, the Centre will be a tool to contribute to the fair, timely, equitable and transparent resolution of disputes at a low cost, for the benefit of the sport community. En septembre 2001, un groupe d'experts issus de la collectivité sportive, et nommés par le secrétaire d'État (Sport amateur), recommandait que soit développé un mécanisme national de règlement extrajudiciaire des différends (RED) pour le sport au Canada. En réponse à cette recommandation, le projet de loi [C-54, Loi favorisant l'activité physique et le sport] prévoit la création du Centre de règlement des différends sportifs au Canada. Organisme souple, le Centre se veut un outil pour régler les différends de manière juste, opportune, équitable, transparente et à faible coût, au bénéfice de la collectivité sportive.
