Ainsi, le système «Smart Shopper», qui n'en est qu'à ses débuts, fait partie de la dernière génération des terminaux à autobalayage (self-scanning terminals). Avant de commencer ses achats, le client s'identifie à l'aide de sa carte, qui constitue sa porte d'entrée au système, et il reçoit son propre lecteur de code-barres portable. Le client doit alors passer lui-même chaque produit par le lecteur, qui lui indique le prix unitaire, le prix total des produits choisis et les offres spéciales.
