[…] l'idée est venue d'utiliser sur le fond un chalut pélagique, qui devient ainsi un chalut de fond à très grande ouverture verticale. Cependant, cette méthode, en raison de la présence de grands maillages, ne peut être efficace sur toutes les espèces de fond. On peut alors ajouter des bras au contact du fond, c'est-à-dire une certaine longueur de câble entre le lest et le chalut, pour améliorer l'efficacité sur certaines espèces. On aboutit alors à une sorte de gréement «semi-pélagique» […] avec les panneaux au-dessus du fond et dans lequel on retrouve la géométrie générale d'un gréement à fourches.
