The categorization (sometimes in diagrammatic form) of a given subject field into the various sub-activities with which particular sets of terms are associated, based on an examination of a representative sampling of available specialized written material and, as required, opinions obtained from subject specialists. Opération consistant à circonscrire (parfois schématiquement) les diverses ramifications d'un domaine de manière à obtenir tous les sous-domaines auxquels appartiennent les différents ensembles de termes qui s'y rapportent, en se fondant sur l'examen d'un échantillonnage représentatif de la documentation pertinente et, au besoin, sur l'avis de spécialistes en la matière.
