Érythème causé par une exposition prolongée aux rayons ultraviolets solaires.

OBS

Certains auteurs distinguent le coup de soleil, qui est la cause, de l'érythème solaire, qui en est le résultat. Dans la pratique, on les confond.

OBS

En anglais on distinguera les notions de sunburn et de skin burn; la seconde représentant généralement une brûlure plus grave. S'il y a inflammation de la peau, on parlera de dermatite solaire (solar dermatitis, en anglais) plutôt que d'érythème solaire, bien que de plus en plus fréquemment on confonde ces deux termes.
