Elections Canada, backgrounders. Canadians who will be 18 years of age or older on election day and who are currently incarcerated in a correctional institution or a federal penitentiary in Canada may vote by special ballot in a federal by-election. A staff member in each institution is appointed liaison officer and facilitates the process of registering and voting. The liaison officer answers questions about the manner of voting and helps the electors to register.

Les Canadiens qui auront au moins 18 ans le jour du scrutin et qui sont incarcérés dans un établissement correctionnel ou un pénitencier fédéral au Canada peuvent voter par bulletin spécial à une élection ou un référendum. Dans chaque établissement, un membre du personnel est nommé agent de liaison, avec la tâche de faciliter le processus d'inscription et de vote. L'agent de liaison répond aux questions sur le processus de vote et aide les électeurs à s'inscrire.
