The ISSS (International Society of Soil Science), founded on 19 May 1924, is organized as a non-profit, non-governmental, scientific society. On August 26th of 1998, the International Society of Soil Science became the International Union of Soil Sciences (IUSS). The IUSS is a scientific union member of the International Council of Scientific Unions (ICSU) since 1992.
