Un info-ménager (ce que nos amis saxons nomment Net appliance) est le fer de lance d'une nouvelle génération d'appareils domestiques axés sur des services numériques (lire : le Net)... Pour être un véritable info-ménager, le service iM Band (nouveau système de radio numérique avec diffusion sur le Web) doit pouvoir «quitter» l'ordinateur et se tailler une niche avec les autres appareils électroniques domestiques.

Les Internet Appliances (ou terminaux Internet) proposent de singer notre sacro-saint Minitel... Et ce que l'on nous fait miroiter, ce sont les nouveaux usages d'appareils qu'aujourd'hui nous avons encore peine à définir. À la fois téléphone, visiophone, terminal Internet, lecteur enregistreur... ces petits bijoux technologiques sont tout cela à la fois.
