L'effet de contraste. En rapprochant deux complémentaires ou deux couleurs primaires, on obtient un effet violent mais heureux qui est le contraste. Exemple: Tulipes rouges sur pelouse. Le contraste peut présenter deux aspects : 1. Si les deux couleurs sont de même intensité, on a un contraste de couleur. Exemple : Dahlia "Butterfly" (jaune) et Dahlia "Philine" (rouge). 2. Si l'une des couleurs est claire et l'autre foncée, on obtient en même temps un contraste de valeur. Exemple : Souci, "Orange King" (orangé vif) et Pétunia "Bleu d'argent".
