Subject field(s)
  • Aircraft Airframe
CONT

A cut through the wing perpendicular to the leading and trailing edges will show the cross-section of the wing. This side view is called an airfoil, and it has some geometry definitions of its own ... The straight line drawn from the leading to trailing edges of the airfoil is called the chord line. The chord line cuts the airfoil into an upper surface and a lower surface.

CONT

The colorful cloth that suspends us is known as the canopy or wing. There is an upper surface and a lower surface to this canopy as well as a leading edge and trailing edge. The upper and lower surfaces are held together by ribs that are shaped to create a cross section like a bird's or airplane's wing.

CONT

The canopy is constructed of a top and bottom surface joined by a number of vertical segments. When it is fully inflated, the cell takes up an aerofoil shape with a flattish lower surface and a curved, or cambered, top surface.

Record 7 1998-01-26

English

Subject field(s)
  • Tectonics
CONT

Let us consider ... a relatively resistant bed ... included within a more plastic mass ... and in the act of bending ... The pressure that is exerted upon the separation surface evidently being the same in the two media, and the differences of principal pressures being equal to the respective thresholds, since there is deformation, the pressure that is exerted upon an element of surface normal to the limit is much less on the side where there is elongation (the extrados) in the resistant medium than in the plastic mass, and it may even be replaced by a tension which may be expressed by cracks.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Tectonique
DEF
