Founded in 1959, the Chamber of Marine Commerce (CMC) was originally called the Great Lakes Waterway Development Association, with five members (three shippers and two carriers, Canada Steamship Lines and Upper Lakes Shipping). For many years, it was known as the Chamber of Maritime Commerce.
