English

Subject field(s)
  • Stock Exchange
  • Investment
CONT

A buyer of a call may exercise his option in order to receive the dividend. If he did so the day before the stock traded "ex-dividend," the naked call writer might not receive the notice until the next day and he would owe the dividend but he would not receive it on the shares which he purchased to effect delivery against his assignment notice. He would, therefore, be "out" the dividend, thus affecting his profitability.

English

Subject field(s)
  • Property Law (common law)
CONT

An option creates an equitable interest in land which is specifically enforceable once the optionee elects to exercise the option. Upon its exercise, it converts into an agreement for sale by operation of law and the relationship converts from optionor-optionee to vendor-purchaser. An option has been held to be an interest in land, hence a caveat should be filed to protect the interest of the optionee. (Sterk, 1981, p. 41)
