On observe parfois, à la surface de certains galets, des marques en arc de cercle, comparables à ce que laisserait l'empreinte d'un ongle dans une matière plastique. Le rayon de ces arcs de cercle est, en général, d'autant plus grand que le galet est plus gros. Ces marques, qui s'entrecroisent, sont des marques de choc.
