La méthode de Dumas a été découverte en 1827 par le chimiste Jean-Baptiste Dumas [...] La méthode de Dumas mesure des poids ou des masses moléculaires (M= mRT/PV). Elle permet d'identifier un gaz inconnu, grâce à plusieurs caractéristiques comme la couleur jaunâtre et l'odeur d'œuf pourri. D'autres outils d'analyse comme la masse volumique et la masse molaire sont aussi très utilisés. [Elle] permet de connaître avec précision le poids atomique des gaz que nous trouvons actuellement sur la Terre.
