A developmental anomaly characterized by the presence of only one digit on a hand or foot.

CONT

Similarly, ectrodactyly (split hand and foot deformity of either the "lobster-claw" variety or the monodactyly type) and harelip with or without cleft palate are distinct congenital malformations which are not known to be related, although they have been observed together in some instances.

Une classification anatomique des formes typiques de l'ectrodactylie a été proposée par Birch-Jensen (1949); cet auteur distingue le type I, caractérisé par l'absence des rayons digitaux centraux et réalisant au maximum la malformation en «pince de homard» et le type II ou monodactylie où les rayons digitaux sont absents, mais avec présence constante du 5ème doigt.
