En pratique, les temps de relaxation des tissus étant comme on l'a vu pour le T1 de l'ordre de 0,5 seconde et pour les T2 de l'ordre de 50 millisecondes, une séquence pondérée en T1 sera typiquement une séquence avec un temps de répétition de l'ordre de 0,5 seconde et un temps d'écho le plus court possible (15 à 20 ms), alors qu'une séquence pondérée en T2 sera une séquence avec un TR [temps de répétition] long de l'ordre de 2 secondes et un temps d'écho supérieur à 50 ms (de l'ordre de 80 à 120 ms).
