... the processing cone ... shown (here) was conceived as a parallel process that could be implemented with an array of microcomputers. Each computer accesses a window of data in a set of planes at the level below the present plane. The flow of processing is upward with processing in each level working upward or across windows. At each level the goal is to decrease the resolution presented to the next higher level in the cone. Within the cone there are three modes of operation -reduction, interaction and projection- each applied throughout the cone.
