English

Subject field(s)
  • Mineralogy
DEF

A mineral whose outward crystal form is that of another mineral species; it has developed by alteration, substitution, incrustation, or paramorphism.

The most compelling evidence of replacement is pseudomorphism. Pseudomorphs of cassiterite after orthoclase have been recorded from Cornwall, England, and of pyrrhotite after hornblende from Sullivan, British Columbia.

OBS

A pseudomorph is said to be "pseudomorphic after" the other, from which it was formed.

OBS

pseudomorph: term used at Natural Resources Canada - Earth Sciences Sector.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Minéralogie
DEF

OBS

[Par exemple,] [...] le quartz pseudomorphosant la fluorine.

English

Subject field(s)
  • Diachronic Linguistics and Etymology
DEF

A variant of a morpheme which occurs in certain definable environments.

CONT

When we attend to the pronunciation of forms, or represent them consistently in a phonemic transcription, we find a similar relation between the morpheme and its variant representations in allomorphes, as we found in considering phonemes and their allophones.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Linguistique diachronique et étymologie
DEF

Se dit de différentes formes qui représentent le même morphème réalisé dans des contextes différents.

CONT
