DEF

One of two nicol prisms or polaroid discs in the petrological microscope, between which thin rock sections are studied with transmitted polarized light.

CONT

... the condenser is ... spoken of as the polarizer and the ocular as the analyser.

DEF

Subject field(s)
  • Optics
  • Analytical Chemistry
DEF

The section of the mass spectrometer in which the beam of ions emerging from the ion source is separated into a series of beams, according to the mass-to-charge ratios.

CONT

Mass spectrometers, which operate under high vacuum, consist of four basic parts: a handling system ...; an ionization chamber ...; an analyzer, in which the particles in the beam are separated according to mass; and a detector ...

CONT

Mass analyzers are systems designed to identify and measure materials according to their molecular weights. The technique has been adapted for many other applications ranging from physics research and the identification of complex molecular structure to assuring the integrity of the fuel systems on the space shuttle and routine helium leak detection. While the uses of mass analyzers in the microelectronics industry include some exotic applications, such as SIMS, the greatest number of systems are used for various types of gas analysis. Applications for mass analyzers include process monitoring, process engineering and control in such areas as evaporation, MBE, sputter etch and deposition, plasma etch and deposition, ion, implantation, LPCVD, CVD, and diffusion furnaces. Another important application is high purity gas certification and electronic gas mixture verification.

CONT

Subject field(s)

  • Telecommunications
DEF

A program that uses information in natural language input to fill data structures that the rest of the system can use; it identifies the various components of the input sentence and constructs an internal representation using syntactic and semantic clues.

CONT

X-TRA and XTRA-TE share the same analyzer, a syntax driven top-down, depth-first parser written in the formalism of definite clause grammars ..., but augmented with semantic routines for carrying out lexical and structural disambiguation. The parser takes the English input sentence ... and accomplishes syntactic/semantic analysis on the list. Syntax and semantics are closely integrated so that syntactically well-formed but semantically invalid parses are ruled out as early as possible.

CONT

FGA, unlike other attempted natural language parser, is based on only a small subset of the complete French grammar and dictionary.

CONT

We intend to encourage language learners to communicate with their pen pals electronically. ... the intended mail message will first be subjected to one of our language analysers. The user will be helped to correct his/her message to an adequate level of grammatical correctness.

  • Télécommunications
DEF

PHR

analyseur déterministe, syntaxico-sémantique, logique, micro-analyseur.
