The Expert Panel on Skills was established on September 18th, 1998, by the Advisory Council on Science and Technology (ACST), to advise on critical skills knowledge-intensive industrial sectors. The Panel provides independent, expert advice on the critical skills needed in a number of sectors of industry where Canada is strong already or where opportunities for economic growth and for job creation are high. These sectors are: aerospace, automotive, bio-pharmaceuticals and bio-technologies in agriculture, aquaculture and forestry, environmental technologies, and information and telecommunications technologies.

Le Conseil consultatif des sciences et de la technologie (CCST) a annoncé la création du Groupe d'experts sur les compétences, le 8 septembre 1998. Ce Groupe fournira des avis éclairés et indépendants sur les compétences requises dans un certain nombre de secteurs industriels qui sont déjà en bonne position concurrentielle ou dont le potentiel de croissance et de création d'emplois est élevé. Ces secteurs sont : l'aérospatiale; l'automobile; la biopharmaceutique et les biotechnologies dans les domaines de l'agriculture, de l'aquiculture et de la foresterie; les technologies environnementales; et les technologies de l'information et des télécommunications.
