Le réacteur continue à générer de l'énergie à l'arrêt par désactivation de la puissance résiduelle des produits de fission. Pression et températures, dans le circuit primaire, sont progressivement ramenés à 28 bars, 180 °C, valeurs en dessous desquelles les générateurs de vapeur (GV) deviennent inopérants. Le refroidissement est repris par le circuit de refroidissement du réacteur à l'arrêt (RRA) jusqu'à une température inférieure à 60 °C, pour permettre les opérations de maintenance sur le cœur et de déchargement du combustible.
