In 2008, Congress required railroads install positive train control (PTC) on mainlines that transport any poisonous-inhalation-hazardous (PIH) materials and where regularly scheduled intercity passenger or commuter rail services are provided. PTC uses communication-based/processor-based train control technology that provides a system capable of reliably and functionally preventing train-to-train collisions, overspeed derailments, incursions into established work zone limits, and the movement of a train through a main line switch in the improper position.

Un «pitch trim actuator» peut parfois être un vérin compensateur de Mach, mais il existe de nombreux avions auxquels la notion de Mach ne s'applique pas, mais qui sont quand même munis d'un «pitch trim actuator». Ce serait le cas, par exemple, du très populaire Dash8. Dans ce cas, on parlerait de «vérin de compensateur de profondeur», par exemple. Sur de nombreux avions, il n'y a pas de vérin distinct pour la compensation de Mach, mais simplement un circuit qui agit sur le compensateur de profondeur quand le centre de poussée recule à mesure que la vitesse de l'écoulement sur l'aile s'approche de la vitesse du son.

An example will illustrate how the computer assists the operation. Joe Smith delivers a truck load of grain to the elevator, and is directed by the central control board operator (CBO) to receiving pit. Using an alphanumeric keyboard, the CBO types in Smith's account number, the code number of the receiving pit (origin) and the code number of the selected bin (destination) in which his grain will be stored. The computer then determines all possible alternate routes between the receiving pit and the bin and displays them in detail on the video screen. The operator selects the route he wants to use by typing in the proper instruction. All but the selected route codes disappear from the video screen. The computer then determines all possible simultaneous routes that could be used without interference; the operator may later select any of these routes for another operation.

Nous allons nous servir d'un exemple pour illustrer comment l'ordinateur assiste le fonctionnement du silo.
