[...] le mot anglais «live» ne se substitue pas au français «direct» mais les deux mots sont souvent combinés pour former un nouveau vocable hybride («direct live», «en direct live») qui amalgame deux notions distinctes : le spectacle lui-même, joué en présence de spectateurs, désigné par «live», et une retransmission en temps réel, qu'elle soit radiophonique, télévisée ou diffusée par l'internet, désignée par «en direct». Cet amalgame s'explique par le fait qu'en anglais le mot «live» possède une double signification : ainsi parle-t-on de concert «live» pour désigner un concert donné «en public», et de «live broadcast» pour une émission «en direct». Pour une manifestation artistique, politique, sportive, ou pour un évènement médiatique qui a lieu en présence de spectateurs, au mot anglais «live» correspondent en français les expressions «sur scène», «en public», «devant un public».
