magasin à rayons

Pour traduire l’anglais department store, le terme magasin à rayons est considéré tantôt comme un anglicisme, tantôt comme une impropriété. Il s’agit plutôt d’un canadianisme bien construit pour désigner l’établissement de vente à grande surface comportant de nombreux rayons spécialisés.

Le rayon désigne une partie d’un grand magasin réservée au commerce d’une marchandise.

On peut aussi employer grand magasin ou grand magasin généraliste :

  • Il adore faire ses courses dans un grand magasin.
  • Ce magasin à rayons vend des produits d’une qualité douteuse.

L’expression magasin à rayons multiples est employée en Europe.
